Generosity Live! -- Frequently Asked Questions

Generosity Live! helps you find ways to support the good in your community by introducing you to everyday heroes in a bold, engaging, interactive LIVE video format.

WHAT IS THE PREMISE OF GENEROSITY LIVE! ?

It's *all* about the nonprofits. When you tune in to Generosity Live!, you will hear directly from nonprofit leaders across the country with remarkably compelling stories of how donors like you make their work possible. The objective of Generosity Live! is to offer a virtual platform to as many nonprofit leaders as possible, many of whom might not be familiar with, have the resources to, or feel comfortable using live-streaming video themselves. Too often, nonprofits miss out on connecting with donors by not properly leveraging social media -- we set out to change that, one conversation at a time.

WHERE DID THIS IDEA COME FROM?

The fundraising telethon is an American tradition dating back to April 9, 1949, when comedian Milton Berle broadcasted live on NBC for 16 consecutive hours, raising $1.1 million -- more than $11 million in today's dollars -- for the Damon Runyon Cancer Fund.

The concept was popularized in the 1960's by Jerry Lewis, who would go on to host the annual MDA Labor Day Telethon for 34 years. As the national television landscape dramatically shifted in the 2010's, the concept of a nationally televised telethon faded -- giving way to a democratized new landscape of virtual live events, powered by new social video technologies.

In June 2016, Chris Strub, in his role consulting with Humana, met with the team at the Community Foundation of Louisville, and advised them to institute Facebook Live video as part of their annual Give for Good Louisville fundraiser. Chris worked with CFL to produce a full day of live video on Sept. 14, 2017, when Give for Good Louisville raised a then-record $4.6 million for more than 500 participating nonprofits.

In the five years since Chris first partnered with CFL, Give For Good Louisville has smashed a fundraising record each year since -- in 2021, the second year of a global pandemic, raising a stunning $8.9 million. Chris's partnership with CFL has led to additional work with giving days across 9 states, with those 20 events (2017-2021) raising more than $71.5 million.

While Chris continues to partner directly with giving day clients in certain markets, Generosity Live! was founded in 2022 as an independent digital media channel, allowing a broader, year-round look at community-based generosity events. Unless otherwise specified, Generosity Live! is not affiliated with a particular giving day event.

WHEN DOES GENEROSITY LIVE! AIR?

Dates are listed on the home page, www.generositylive.com. The exact times for each event will be revealed approximately a week prior to the event.

WHERE CAN I WATCH GENEROSITY LIVE! ?

We'll have all streams embedded right here on www.generositylive.com. Streams will be hosted primarily at www.youtube.com/chrisstrub and simulcast to Chris's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/TeamStrub. Content may be simulcast to other locations -- check the individual event details for that information.

HOW DO YOU PICK DATES AND PLACES FOR GENEROSITY LIVE! ?

Most Generosity Live! events are scheduled concurrently with 24-hour community-wide fundraising events called Giving Days. These events are managed independently by community organizers and often comprise of 300, 400, 500 or even more nonprofits running an all-out fundraising blitz simultaneously. Giving Days vary in scope from a few thousand dollars raised, to tens of millions of dollars, or more -- in a single day!

HOW CAN I SUPPORT THE NONPROFITS FEATURED ON GENEROSITY LIVE! ?

There will be direct links to donate in the description of each Generosity Live! video -- and I can assure you, we'll answer this question repeatedly during each broadcast. :) It is our sincerest hope that Generosity Live! introduces you to a slate of new nonprofits that you aspire to support while watching and for years to come.

HOW CAN MY NONPROFIT BE PART OF A GIVING DAY?

Giving Days are run by local community leaders, and produced through a giving day provider platform. If there is not a Giving Day in your local community, I recommend you fill out this form to request a Demo from Neon One. Let 'em know Chris Strub sent you! :)

WE'RE PART OF A FEATURED GIVING DAY! HOW CAN MY NONPROFIT BE FEATURED ON GENEROSITY LIVE! ?

If your nonprofit is participating in a giving day featured on Generosity Live!, we'll ask that you fill out a brief interest form that will qualify you for a slot on the show. You must fill out the form in its entirety to be eligible, and while filling out the form does not guarantee your organization a spot during the day, we do our best to accommodate as many nonprofits as possible.

HOW LONG WILL OUR APPEARANCE BE? / WHAT WILL WE TALK ABOUT? / WHAT TIME WILL WE BE FEATURED? / WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR? / CAN WE SHOW A VIDEO? / CAN WE HAVE MULTIPLE PEOPLE ON SCREEN? / HOW DO WE JOIN THE BROADCAST? / IS THERE A REPLAY AVAILABLE? / CAN WE USE THE VIDEO ON OUR OWN CHANNELS?

Chris answers a lot of these basic best practices questions in this video -- the description includes timestamps, so you can skip ahead to the answer to your specific question as needed. As for the details of your individual appearance, you will receive an email with all the essential information after filling out the interest form, and you'll be invited to a brief training call about 5 days before the event.
